Foliant’s Vega 530 Brings More Speed and Format Flexibility to Digital Print Finishing

In a recent episode of Commit to Print, Graphco President Chris Manley shared a quick update on what’s new with Foliant, including the release of the Vega 530.

For years, the Vega 400 has been a strong fit for digital print applications. Now, the Vega 530 expands on that success by giving printers access to a larger format and even faster throughput.

As Chris explained, the Vega 530 extends capability to 21 inches wide by up to 40 inches deep, making it a strong match for HP Indigo environments as well as a wide range of commercial print applications.

Speed is another big part of the story. On a digital size sheet, the Vega 400 runs at about 2,300 sheets per hour, while the Vega 530 pushes past 3,500 sheets per hour. That kind of jump gives digital printers a way to keep lamination from becoming a bottleneck.

The opportunity here is straightforward. Printers serving the digital market need finishing equipment that can keep pace with production demands, and the Vega 530 is built to do exactly that.

The transaction marks the beginning of the next chapter for the 50-year-old company while maintaining the leadership, relationships, and service culture that have long defined Graphco.
The journey toward the acquisition began with a conversation in an unlikely setting — a pizza shop in Bainbridge, Ohio.

During that meeting, Gattozzi approached longtime Graphco President Chris Manley with a simple question: What was the succession plan for Graphco? That discussion sparked a nearly year-long process in which Gattozzi began studying the company, learning the printing industry, and developing a long-term vision for Graphco’s future.

Throughout that process, Gattozzi partnered with his long-time friend and mentor John Berger, a seasoned entrepreneur who has built and operated his own company, Dreison International for more than 40 years (www.dreison.com). Berger has grown his business through disciplined leadership and strategic acquisitions. Berger also had a long-standing relationship with the Manley family, having known Bill, Chris, and Theresa Manley for almost 40 years, which provided an added level of familiarity and trust as discussions around Graphco’s future progressed.

As they spent time with the Graphco team, its customers, and its vendor partners, both Gattozzi and Berger developed a deep appreciation for the culture and reputation the company has built over its five-decade history. Graphco’s customer first mindset was in direct alignment with both John and Jeremy’s business philosophy.

Gattozzi joined Graphco in December 2025 as Chief Operating Officer, working closely with company leadership as the transaction moved toward completion. Since joining the organization, he has already expanded the team by hiring three additional key employees in his first four months as part of the company’s continued growth strategy.

Chris Manley, who has led Graphco for decades, will remain President and Theresa Manley will continue as Chief Financial Officer to ensure continuity for customers, vendor partners, and employees.

At Printing United in Orlando, Morten B. Reitoft from INKISH met with Chris Manley, president of Graphco, to discuss how the company continues to innovate and help printers expand into higher-margin opportunities. The Graphco booth once again reflected Manley’s energy and creativity, centered on a clear theme: “The Unfair Advantage.”

That phrase, Manley explained, defines Graphco’s mission to give its customers a real competitive edge—enabling them to outproduce and outprofit their peers through smart investments. One of the standout demonstrations was the SD AUGUSTA F-150R2 hybrid CNC routing and cutting system, made in Italy. The machine was shown producing high-value signage in just a few minutes, turning roughly $25 in raw materials into finished products that sell for around $200. Designed for automation and ease of use, the system can cut, route, and automatically weld studs, allowing even non-specialized operators to create complex, ready-to-install signage.

Manley emphasized how this kind of productivity and profitability is exactly what printers need in a market where 10–15% gross margins are typical. For about $5,000–$6,000 per month in lease payments, he explained, a print service provider can own a system that generates products with far higher returns than traditional print work.

Graphco also showcased the Foliant Taurus 530 4×4 laminator, built in the Czech Republic, which can laminate both sides of a 12×18″ sheet at nearly 8,000 sheets per hour. Manley noted that it is ideal for digital and offset printers alike—particularly those producing menus, covers, and other laminated applications requiring high throughput and premium finish quality.

Another highlight was the FoldStream folder-gluer from Hanover, Germany. Compact, easy to use, and built for short- to medium-run packaging and pocket folders, the FoldStream provides automation and productivity typically reserved for much larger, more expensive systems. Priced at roughly half of competitive equipment, it opens opportunities for smaller printers to enter the folding carton and packaging market.
